True Odds Craps
- Let's look again at the odds of landing a 7 in a craps game. As mentioned before, the true odds of landing it is 5 to 1. So, if a player bet $10 on the 7 and won, theoretically they should receive $50. However, the payout odds of landing a 7 is 4 to 1.
- The good news is that a 7 has a greater chance of appearing than any other combination. The bad news is that you still only have a 1 in 6 chance (5:1 odds) of this happening on a single roll. What’s even worse is that Any 7 only pays 4:1 on your bet. Given the wide discrepancy between this and the 5:1 true odds, Any 7 carries a 16.67% house edge.
Craps -The Intimidating Table Game?
In Craps, when allowed, one can bet the very next roll will be an easy 4 - 1,3 (not a hard 4 (2,2) as that is a different Hop bet) So the probability of throwing an easy 4 is 2/36 = 1/18 = 5.56%. We can express this as odds of 17 to 1 AGAINST or 1 chance in 18. Thus it seems like the true odds of throwing an easy 4 would be 17:1. The “Aces” bet is a one-roll wager on the two-craps. The payoff is 30 – 1, while the true odds are 35 – 1. The house edge on this wager is also 16.67%. Last of all is the twelve-craps, sometimes called “midnight.” Like the Aces bet, the twelve-craps pays 30 – 1 and carries a house edge of 16.7%. Nevertheless, you can quickly become a skilled craps player by understanding the fundamentals of craps odds and the house edge on each bet in the game. For example, the chances of hitting a Pass bet is 49.3% but the payout is 1/1. This difference of 1.41% is the house edge on that bet.
Who hasn’t walked past a craps table the first time feeling intimidation and excitement at the same time? Everybody that’s who!
Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop the curious from learning the game as quickly as possible. Novice player or not - it is for the real gambler, wanting real money action.
Learn the ins and outs and that daunting sentiment quickly disappears. It’s not like the Hollywood portrayal of high-roller James Bond types. A dress code of men in white tuxes sipping on martinis and lovely ladies blowing on their dice isn’t reality.

Is Craps a Hard Game to Learn?
It might seem overwhelming and confusing at first. But let’s be honest that goes for anything when not well studied. With a bit of research, you’ll beat the house and be bumping elbows with the best of players. After all, it could be you as the next craps champion
Basic 'Must Knows'
Does the roll of the dice have any impact of the game? That is one controversial question with many players having their own theories. Watch each die long enough and decide for yourself!

- 3-4-5X odds are allowed.
- To simplify the game, instead of offering both place and buy bets, I offer just one for each number. Each number pays the better odds between place and buy bets. I refer to these as 'buy bets.' They pay 7-6 on the 6 & 8, 7-5 on the 5 & 9, and 39-20 on the 4 & 10.
- Lay bets pay true odds, but player must prepay a 5% commission, based on the possible win. This works out to odds of 19-25 on the 6 & 8, 19-31 on the 5 & 9, and 19-41 on the 4 & 10.
- If the player selects 'keep bets working,' then all bets will be on for come out rolls. Otherwise, buy, hard ways, and odds on come bets will be turned off.
- If the player selects 'leave winnings bets up,' then only wins will be returned and the original wager will be re-bet. However, winning come and don't come bets are always returned. Winnings odds bets on come bets will remain up if there is a new come bet to associate them with. If the new come bet is less than the winning one, the amount of odds on the table will be the same multiple bet on the odds of the winning bet and the rest returned to the player.
- Bets may be taken down by shift-clicking.
- Put bets and taking down don't pass and don't come bets, that are already on a number, are not allowed.
To slow down the payment stage of the game, hold down the shift and control keys when you click 'roll'.
For fans of my buggy old version one, I still have it. However, I highly recommend playing this current version instead.

The Lay bet is considered pretty much the opposite of the Buy bet. In other words, players bet that a 7 will come out before one of the so-called point numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 appear.
This bet is suitable for players who pay attention to some temporary trends over gameplay. For example, if a player notices that a certain number has not appeared for some time, they could suppose that the trend will continue for a little while and prefer the Lay bet on this number.

The Lay bet is not a self-service bet, which means that the player needs the dealer's assistance in order to make it. When playing in a land-based casino, the player would have to first attract the attention of the dealer, and then put their chips inside the Come area. After doing that, the player must communicate with the dealer and tell them what number they would like to place a Lay bet on.
The chips are picked up by the dealer, who puts them in the suitable point box that corresponds to the player's position at the table. Then, they put a “Lay” button on top of the player's chips in order to indicate the fact that the player has preferred the Lay bet. When it comes to betting at an Internet casino, however, the procedure is much quicker and easier for the player. The Lay bet is placed in just a few clicks.
Still, players should be aware of the fact that Lay bets are rarely made, as their usefulness is considered somehow limited. In fact, the most efficient Lay bet is the one on the 4 and 10. Unfortunately, such a bet placed on the rest of the point numbers, 5, 6, 8, and 9, is considered unfortunate for the player, as it provides the casino with a too great of a house advantage.
As already mentioned, the best variation of the Lay bet is when the player puts their wager against 4 and 10.
In this case, the house edge equals 2.44%, in a way that is similar to how the casino advantage is reduced on the 4 and 10 with the Buy bet. So, players are highly preferred to place a Lay bet only on the 4 and 10. In addition, they should consider limiting the frequency of this bet and also bet around the casino maximum for the minimum commission. Such an approach would decrease the house edge.
Lay Bet and True Odds
The pay-off of the Lay bet is based on true odds. However, the odds are different for each point number the player bets on. There are three variations of the bet, including Lay bet for the 4 and 10, Lay bet for the 5 and 9 and Lay bet for the 6 and 8.
The true odds for placing a Lay bet on 4 and 10 are 1 to 2. When it comes to placing the same bet on the numbers 5 and 9, the true odds are 2:3. And last, but not least, the true odds of the Lay bet for the 6 and 8 are 5:6.
As already explained, the Lay bet is practically the opposite of the Buy bet, meaning that players hope for a 7 to appear before any of the point numbers they bet against. In fact, there are more ways to make a 7 than to make any of the point numbers, which means that the player should Lay more than they expect to win.
The fact that the pay-off for the Lay bets is based on true odds means that there literally is no house edge for the wager. Still, as explained for the Buy bets, the casino could not afford to lose money, so players are made to pay a special commission for the chance of getting true odds. The “vig” tax is the same as the one associated with the Buy bets, meaning that a 5% commission is required.
