The Aladdin Zorro black band lunchbox is a vintage lunchbox based on the fictional hero Zorro.
Background
The character of Zorro was created in 1919 by the American writer Johnston McCulley, and has appeared in numerous magazines, books, films and television series. After a number of feature films and film serials during the 1920s and 30s, the character appeared in a popular Walt Disney television show which ran from 1957 until 1959.
Starring Guy Williams in the title role, the show was an unexpected hit and ran for two seasons and 78 episodes on the ABC network. However, a dispute between ABC and Disney over the rights to the show, amongst others, led to the cancellation of the series. Four hour-long special episodes were produced and shown between 1960 and 1961, but the long-running legal dispute meant the character’s popularity had waned by the time it was resolved.
During its initial run the character was hugely popular with children and a wave of merchandise was produced to cash in on the craze. Items ranged from Zorro costumes and model play-sets produced by Marx Toys to trading cards made by Topps and a lunchbox released in 1958 by Aladdin Industries.

The box has a black border and handle, with illustrated graphics on the front and back panels and a patterned motif design on the side panels.
The front of the box features an illustration of Zorro in his iconic pose, rearing up on his black horse with his sword raised and cape flowing in the wind behind him. The reverse panel features an image of Zorro cutting his trademark ‘Z’ into the uniform of Sergeant Garcia (played by actor Henry Calvin).
The sides of the box are black, with designs that resemble Spanish silver filigree patterns. The matching thermos flask has a black top, and features a colour illustration of Zorro fighting against soldiers in a town square whilst residents watch from balconies and other soldiers run to join the fight.

In mint, unused condition the first 1958 Zorro box can sell on auction sites like eBay for up to $250.
Zorro Lunch Boxes From The 50s
The price for used boxes falls away considerably after this, but boxes in top condition can sell for $75 - $125 depending on their wear and tear. Good used boxes with marks such as scratches and small dents regularly fetch $40 - $50 individually, with good condition flasks occasionally selling for the same amount.
